Coastal System and the Flood

Hii! In this post I'm going to explain a bit of the relationship between the flood in Jakarta and the coastal system. As we all know that some areas in jakarta are covered in water. Us as the young generation, must find out what are the reasons of the annual flood that has been happening in jakarta for years.

From point no. 9 (http://www.ilmusipil.com/penyebab-banjir-di-jakarta) I can conclude that one of the reasons behind the flood is because humans build stuff like hotels, restaurant or anything like that near the water. As we all know that erosion happens very often in places near the water. That means the lands to hold the water from getting into the city is taken away(naturally). But humans, instead of minimizing the erosion by planting mangroves, they built more and more buildings. Buildings will be the one that covers the land, not trees. That isn't a good thing because if lands near water aren't covered in trees, there's nothing to hold the water and water will get into the city. Buildings can't stop the water from getting into the city, can it? But mangroves can! If we built more and more buildings, more and more mangroves are going to be cleared. There'll be nothing to stop the water. The you-know-what luxurious housing in the north part of jakarta, they cleared the mangroves for building the housing. They may make a lot of money for that, but they harm the surroundings. And one of the harm they cause is flood.

A little suggestion for the people of jakarta and its government, take care of the environment in Jakarta. We don't want the next generation to feel what we are feeling now, do we? We don't want the next generation to suffer in flood right? So start saving jakarta. Plant trees and mangroves!
